Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran battle it out for the number 1 spot!

The besties' albums both sold like pancakes around the globe, but their records go head-to-head for Australia's top selling album of 2014. And as recent reports claim, it looks like Ed had it in the bag.

"Sheeran's second album X was boosted by a smart pre-Christmas TV advertising campaign which gave the record a last-minute four times platinum accreditation, marking 280,000 sales," Herald Sun reported.

"X was also the No. 1 album during the lucrative Christmas sales and spent six weeks at No. 1 in 2014."

"Swift's album 1989 was 2014's second highest seller, remarkably achieving over 140,000 sales in ten weeks of release," the article continued.

Despite the competition, Taylor and Ed remain to be very good friends. The Brit singer has recently told Sydney Confidential that someone like Tay-Tay is his biggest competition in the biz.

"My competition at the moment is probably somebody like Taylor," he said. "It's a healthy competition. She's someone to aspire to because she's one of the biggest touring acts and record-selling acts on the planet. That's where I want to be and I'll work up to that point."

Ed has also tried getting Taylor on the dating wagon again by playing matchmaker.

In an interview with British magazine, the "Thinking Out Loud" singer shared his thoughts about Taylor and Orlando Bloom possibly dating.

"He's lovely, and they live in the same building," he said. "[I'm hoping that] the magic might present itself eventually."
