Leah Westbrook is nice enough to share her entertaining Zombie Mama drama reviews with Kdramastars. But just how did the mom of four start loving and blogging about k-dramas?
"I stumbled upon the world of K-dramas about five years ago," said Westbrook. "I was pregnant with tiny zombie #3 and I spent a lot of sleepless nights browsing Netflix for something to keep my mind off the woes of pregnancy. I came across something that sounded a lot like a manga so I decided to give it a try. It took one episode and I was hooked. I finished my first drama in about two days and was on to the next."
She was drawn to the dramas because of their similarities to anime and manga, which she loves to read.
"I nearly had a cow when I realized one of my most favorites, "'Itazura na Kiss' had been made into a K-drama," she said. "It was a happy day indeed."
She has always been fond of a good romance so how could she resist.
"What can I say? I'm a warm fuzzy addict and k-dramas are my supplier."
The first few dramas intrigued her but it took three before she was really and truly hooked.
"It wasn't until I finished my third drama, 'You're Beautiful' that I consider myself completely gone," said Westbrook. "That's when I stumbled upon the wonderful world of k-pop thanks to Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Hong Ki and from that moment on I was a lost cause."
Her favorite dramas include "My Princess," "The Master's Sun," "Secret Garden," "Coffee Prince," "It's Okay, It's Love, "You Who Came from Another Star," and "Rooftop Prince." The Hong Sisters are her favorite writers and her favorite actors include Gong Hyo Jin, Lee Jong Suk, Lee Dong Wook, Yoon Eun Hye, Sung Joon, Lee Pil Mo, Choi Jin Hyuk, Gu Hye Sun, Kang Ha Neul and Hyun Bin.
Westbrook's first started blogging about her children, hence the name Zombie Mamma.
"Nothing in the world changes your life the way having kids does and I made the analogy of motherhood being like an apocalypse and your children being the zombies. (Because children, like zombies, are voracious, relentless and they love to spend their days gnawing on your brain.) My adventures in mommy blogging ended as soon as I realized writing about motherhood was boring but the name stuck. I've often thought about changing it but I kinda like being a zombie, especially since I spend most of my days feeling like one."
Writing about k-dramas has turned out to be more fun.
"I think the reason I like to write about K-dramas is because it's fun," she said. "When I write, I get to share all my thoughts and feelings on a drama and people write back, sharing their thoughts and feelings and I really like that. I like having people to converse with. I like seeing things through another's point of view, finding a new perspective. I also like that through my writing I've met a lot of wonderful people and made some amazing friends. How can you not love that?"
