When Song Jae Rim appears on "We Got Married" he is pretend-married to actress Kim So Eun. And because of their playful and affectionate scenes, they have become one of the most popular couples ever to appear on that dating show.
But the actor is also starring in a new series titled "Unkind Women," which means he is going to co-star with and probably film some romantic scenes with Lee Hana.
At the recent press conference for "Unkind Women," he was asked about both of his co-stars. Who does he prefer?
He dodged that question by stressing that "We Got Married" is a television program.
"We Got Married is a program, a fantasy that stands on the borderline of reality and imagination," he said. "So Eun is someone I can interact with when I meet her in my dreams and Hana is someone I meet in reality and work with. It would be misleading to compare the two."
But the fact that "We Got Married" is a television program does not mean his affection for Kim So Eun is not genuine.
"Just because we're dreaming up a fantasy in reality, just because it's made up, I think its contradictory to say there's no sincerity," said Song.
"Unkind Women" is a romantic comedy and that's a first for Song.
"Up until now I played a lot of roles where I fought, protected and killed people," he said. "But here I've been acting in a traditional romance with a slightly more normal character than before. I feel like a regular person."
If he does any protecting at all in "Unkind Women," it will be the women he looks out for.
"If the people I had to protect before were men, in a melodrama, it would have to be women, right? Just as 'Inspiring Generation' became a turning point in my acting career, I believe that this project will also produce good energy."
Song Jae Rim's previous roles include playing Kim Soo Hyun's bodyguard in "The Moon Embracing The Sun," a hit man in "Two Weeks," and a famous chef in "The Idle Mermaid."
"Unkind Women" tells the story of a grandmother, her two daughters and her granddaughter as they encounter a series of unexpected events. It also stars Kim Hye Ja, Chae Shi Ra, Do Ji Won and Kim Ji Suk. The Wednesday-Thursday drama will air its first episode on February 25.
