Looks like a good news for Ronda Rousey fans as the popular fighter is set to star in an upcoming action-thriller, "Mile 22."
Guess where women's Bantamweight Champion is up to next after her incredible 14-seconds win against Cat Zingano in their UFC bout Saturday, Feb. 28?
According to USA Today, the most dominant fighter in UFC will keep busy by acting in a new film produced by Peter Berg while UFC tries to find her an opponent worthy of her time.
The film, titled "Mile 22," will feature Rousey as a CIA operative who teams up with an Indonesian police officer, portrayed by Indonesian actor and stuntman Iko Uwais. Uwais is known for films like "Merantau" (2009), "The Raid: Redemption" (2012), and "The Raid 2" (2014). As a team, Rousey and Uwais will be seen battling corruption, and no prizes for guessing, they will be fighting some people in the process.
According to Variety, WME Global is in talks to handle financing on the film. Graham Roland penned the script. Berg teased fans with a photo of him, Uwais and Rousey over Oscar weekend hinting the project was on the horizon. Expressing his excitement for the project, Berg said he is a huge fan of Gareth Evan and Iko's work in both "Raid" films. Berg added that he is very excited at the possibility of working with UFC Women's Bamtamweight Champion and Uwais in creating a film in the spirit of this new wave of combat cinema emerging from Indonesia. Berg added, Uwais and Rousey will be an extremely unique and powerful team.
Citing her skill as a fighter, it's not a surprise that studio execs are keen to cast her in physical female roles. Rousey made her debut with 2014 ensemble action film, "The Expendables 3" and also can be seen in this year's "Furious 7" and "Entourage." According to Variety, Rousey is also attached to the Warner Bros. adaptation of "The Athena Project," which apparently would lead to another franchise for the multihyphenate. In addition, Rousey also has endorsement deals with Buffalo Jeans and Reebok.
Uwais's breakout performances in "The Raid" and "The Raid 2," on which he served as a fight choreographer, caught the eye of J.J. Abrams who later cast him in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Currently Uwais is working as a fight choreographer for Gareth Evans (The Raid).
