Looks like a bad news for Apple as iconic Swiaa watchmaker TAG Heuer is developing a smartwatch to compete with Apple Watch.
Following strong rumors that hinted that Apple is making a smartwatch, specifically to compete in the luxury fashionista world of watches, it is no surprise that the watch industry has been a tizzy.
Although the iconic watchmakers initially dismissed the soon approaching competitor, at least verbally in industry news reports, those on the high end of the timepiece industry apparently are busy developing a smartwatch for those who don't want the fitness band design and look, TechTimes reported.
In order to make sure that the tech giant does not crush their undemanding as well as long-enjoyed profit, Swiss manufacturing company, TAG Heuer is teaming up with search engine giant, Google and Intel on a luxury Android-based smartwatch.
According to NYTimes, although no one either knows what it look like nor what it will cost, the nameless smartwatch announced on Thursday, March 19, became the watch to watch at the Baselworld watch fair. Dramatically timed on the second day of Baselworld, the smartwatch is reportedly the most impressive counterblow yet by Swiss watchmakers against the potential groundbreaking entry into the field by Apple Watch, which is slated to go on sale next month.
Following the announcement, TAG Heuer chief executive Jean-Claude Biver said that the smartwatch is in keeping with an industry built on intricate mechanical timepieces. Jean-Claude Biver further added that the difference between TAG Heuer watch and the Apple Watch is significant, noting that one is called Apple, and this one is called TAG Heuer.
Basically TAG Heuer meant that its neither letting Apple disrupt the watch industry, nor let the tech giant grab the reins of the smartwatch industry and do what they did with smartphone, music and currently are aiming to do with TV and streaming video.
Despite the fact that Apple clearly considers itself a luxury watchmaker already, citing its top-tier watch edition will sell anywhere from a whopping $5,000 to $17,000, the 155-year-old TAG Heuer and their tech-centric partners, Google and Intel appear to be prepared and confident in catching up.
TAG Heuer expects to have its smartwatch on shelves by the end of 2015, and says it will reveal features and pricing in the fourth quarter.
