It looks like new updates for the Microsoft HoloLens VR head gear have been revealed regarding its release date, specs and price range.
According to Venture Capital Post, Microsoft stated that the HoloLens will cost less than $500 when its out in the market; however, Spiceworks reportedly claimed that it will cost around $600 to $1,200.
Microsoft intends to use HoloLens to rival other VR headgear devices such as the Oculus Rift, Project Morpheus and more. PC Pro reports that HoloLens is equipped with a "see-through" holographic HD lenses that can reach full HD quality of 1080p or 720p resolution.
The VR headgear will have the Kinect 2.0 for sensors with features such as 1080p colour cameras, and an infrared sensor.
The HoloLens processor is the Cherry Trail chipset, which was rumored to be smaller, faster with more features than the Bay Trail predecessor, PC Pro reports.
The HoloLens' co-processor is the Holographic Processing Unit that enables users to integrate and interact with real environments and virtual objects in a virtual world.
The RealSense gesture control allows users a hands free control mechanics for interacting with tablets. It also has Intel's WiDi technology which lets users stream different movies, games and apps.
Lastly, the HoloLens will have a game called "HoloStudio," a MineCraft-like game that lets players knock on holes through real-world objects to unveil digital environments. Players can also to create, manipulate and alter 3D models that can be exported to 3D printers.
The Fuse Joplin reports that Microsoft will be developing new games for the VR head gear and they are planning to share its API to other developers to enable them to create other contents and features.
"While there are going to be many uses and industries that take advantage of Microsoft HoloLens and everything that holographic computing has to offer, gaming is a huge opportunity," Microsoft said. "For all the game developers out there, we encourage you to join the Windows Insider Program to get the holographic APIs when available, and stay tuned for Build 2015, where we will share more details."
As for the release date, Microsoft plans to release the HoloLens on April 2015 along with Windows 10, but Venture Capital Post reportedly claimed that the VR head gear will be out on July. Spiceworks reports that the HoloLens is estimated to launch in December.
