Looks like Steven Spielberg is set to return to Warner Bros. with sci-fi cult favorite, "Ready Player One."
Film director, screenwriter and producer, Steven Spielberg is also a self-described gamer who, besides other things, is referred to as creator of the original "Medal of Honor."
Spielberg has been an avid gamer for a long time, in fact, since the early 70s, when video games were first starting to catch on. Considered as one of the leading pioneers of the New Hollywood era, Spielberg's resume include "Close Encounter of the Third Kind," "Jurassic Park," and the "Indiana Jones" movies.
According to Tech Guru Daily, Spielberg is set to take on what Vulture calls "every gamer's fantasy," and fans very well know that Spielberg is not going to do a reboot of the Super Mario Brother's legacy. The iconic director is taking on a project that he's been long associated with, "Ready Player One."
"Ready Player One" is a sci-fi novel by Ernest Cline. The novel centers on a teenager in the future who is trying to find an Easter egg in a video game. The game has slew of pop culture artifacts from the 80s.
GameRant noted that the story is wrapped up with both the past as well as future of video gaming and is set in a world where much of the world has retreated into virtual reality.
No prizes for guessing, Spielberg is best fitted to bring "Ready Player One" to the big screen. However, the big question is how exactly the team of Spielberg and Warner will decipher a predominant element of the book's digital world to the cinematic screen. Although Spielberg may never direct a video game movie, "Ready Player One" could be from a spitting distance of it.
