Yoo In Young has turned up in quite a few recent dramas, playing women who might not be likeable but are always appealing. And now she's taken another complex role in the upcoming SBS drama "Mask."
The actress alternated playing two roles in 2013. She played the fierce female warrior Yeon Bi Su in "Empress Ki," while she at the same time playing Jun Ji Hyun's frenemy and rival Han Yoo Ra in "You Who Came From The Stars."
She followed those roles with a part in 2014 with the tvN drama "The Three Musketeers." In that drama she played a vengeful woman who loved Lee Jin Wook and was pursued by CNBlue's Jung Yong Hwa.
Yoo In Young has played some fierce, spiteful and petty characters but she always manages to make them somewhat sympathetic.
In her new drama "Mask," she will play Mi Yeon, a woman who is unlucky at love. It will be hard to hate her character, say the show's producers, because it's Mi Yeon's bad luck that causes her to behave badly.
"She's an unlucky character who has everything she wants but the man she loves," said a representative from Golden Some Pictures, the drama's production company. "She's bad but she's not hateful."
It's the kind of "bad girl" role that Yoo In Young is good at.
The beautiful and glamorous Mi Yeon is the stepsister to Min Woo, played by Joo Ji Hoon. He's the son of her father's concubine. Despite her ability to catch the most desirable husband, Mi Yeon winds up marrying Suk Hoon, played by Yun Jung Hoon. Once she marries him, she finds out that he is in love with someone else. Because she has been scorned, she tries to destroy him.
The drama's talented line-up is promising.
Joo Ji Hoon is best known for his role as Yoon Eun Hye's prince in the drama "Princess Hours" and his role in the film "Antique Bakery."
Yun Jung Hoon is known for his roles in the dramas "East of Eden" and "Vampire Prosecutor" and for hosting "Top Gear Korea."
Choi Ho Chul, who wrote the hit melodrama "Secrets" will write the screenplay for "Mask."
Boo Sung Chul, who directed the hit dramas "The Heirs" and "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho," will direct "Mask.
The drama has been in production for two years and will be broadcast in May.
