Looks like wedding bells are on hip hop star Kendrick Lamar's future after he announced his engagement to long-term sweetheart Whitney Alford during a radio interview. He confirmed the news on April 3.
According to HollywoodLife, Lamar proposed to Whitney Alford and announced his engagement during an interview with The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1. She has been his girlfriend since high school.
"Yeah, definitely. I'm loyal to the soul," said Lamar.
After keeping his private life under wraps for the most part of his career, Lamar opened up about Alford in a 2014 New York Times Magazine profile, saying that "she has been here since Day 1."
He echoed the same feeling's in Friday's interview, describing the significance of always having real people around you, People noted.
He added that people are supposed to honor those individuals that have been by your side. The "good kid, m.A.A.d city" singer was quoted as saying that he does not change for nobody, but always shows respect when respect is being given.
News of Lamar's engagement follows the release of his latest music video "King Kunta," which dropped on April 1. That single is taken from Lamar's latest album, "To Pimp A Butterfly."
In 2014, during an interview with the NY Times, Lamar revealed that the only person in his life that's allowed to call him out is his girlfriend, Whitney.
"That's my best friend," the "Poetic Justice" rhymer told Billboard in an interview in January. He added that Whitney is the one he can tell his fears to.
2015 has already been a big year for the rapper, especially after he won a Grammy award for best rap performance in February. Just a month later, he released his critically acclaimed third studio album, titled "To Pimp A Butterfly."
