Residents from the island of Kuda Huvadhoo in Maldives said that they saw a "low-flying jumbo jet" on March 8, the day that Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappeared.

The Haveeru reported that residents from Kuda Huvadhoo stated that the aircraft they saw is white with red stripes across it.

"I've never seen a jet flying so low over our island before. We've seen seaplanes, but I'm sure that this was not one of those, I could even make out the doors on the plane clearly," an eyewitness was quoted as saying.

In addition, the residents who saw the said plane reportedly concurred that the aircraft was travelling North to South-East, to the Southern tip of the Maldives, and said that there was a loud noise when the aircraft flew over the island.

"It's not just me either, several other residents have reported seeing the exact same thing. Some people got out of their house to see what was causing the tremendous noise, too," said an eyewitness.

The Island Councilor of Kuda Huvadhoo, Mohamed Zaheem, confirmed that the people of the island have spoken about the event.

It was reported in 2014 that the Maldives National Defence Force released a statement stating that there were no aircraft sightings in the area on the day that the MH370 disappeared. However, residents said that the agency only reportedly said that to hide the limitations of their radar facilities, according to an article by Daily Mail.

Furthermore, information has been released from Curtin University stating that there was a "clear acoustic signal" recorded on the day that MH370 disappeared.

"Data from one of the IMOS (Integrated Marine Observing System) recorders showed a clear acoustic signal at a time that was reasonably consistent with other information relating to the disappearance of MH370," said Dr Alec Duncan in a statement released by Curtin University.

Meanwhile, 40 percent of the area at the coast of Western Australia has been searched, but there remains no wreckage found related to the missing aircraft.
