"Drive" star Ryan Gosling may join the "Blade Runner" cast headlined by Harrison Ford, who is reprising his role from the 1982 science fiction film.
Canadian actor Ryan Gosling is reportedly in negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming "Blade Runner" sequel. Producers made the announcement on April 16.
According to reports on ContactMusic, the 34-year-old actor will be accompanied by Harrison Ford who reprises his role in the Blade Runner sequel.
In the original 1982 sci-fi classic, with Ridley Scott at the helm, Ford portrayed the role of Rick Deckard, a burnt-out expert Blade Runner who unwillingly takes on an assignment to hunt down escaped illegal artificial humans called replicants hiding in Los Angeles.
That said, Ford is not the only member from the film's original cast. Returning as one of the sequel writers is Hampton Fancher, who also worked on the original. Fancher will be writing along with Michael Green, who wrote the script for "Green Lantern" and won an Emmy Award for his work on "Heroes."
In February this year, it was announced that Denis Villeneuve was set to direct the sequel to "Blade Runner" while Scott will return as an executive producer this time, CNet noted.
Although Ridley Scott got mixed results when he expanded his "Alien" film with "Prometheus," Gosling adds a certain cool element to the effort.
Gosling's directorial debut "Lost River" was released in 2014. He is best known for "Drive" and "The Place Beyond the Pines." His upcoming films consist of Shane Black's Harrison Ford starrer "The Nice Guys," and "The Big Short," starring Christian Bale and Brad Pitt.
The "Blade Runner" sequel is slated to release in 2017, just two years before the distant future in which the original film was set.
