Valve has issued a new patch for the "Dota 2" game, which includes a subtle homage to Sir Terry Pratchett.

"Dota 2's" latest gameplay update boasts more than sheer details on the game's general tweaks and balances; it features a subtle tribute to recently deceased English author of fantasy novels, Sir Terry Pratchett.

Best known for his Discworld series of about 40 volumes, Pratchett died on March 12, 2015 at the age of 66 following the onset of Alzheimer's disease. The worldwide appreciation for his work has been evident in an array of tributes, TheVerge noted.

"Dota 2" developer Valve Corporation is joining in with a subtle homage to the deceased prolific fantasy author in its 6.84 Gameplay Update, which adds a new item by the name of "Octarine Core."

According to Polygon, the "Octarine Core" in "Dota 2" is "formed from Mystic Staff and Soul Booster" that provides a lift to the player's hit points, mana, intelligence and more. In addition, TheVerge pointed out that it's also an ode to Pratchett's first "Discworld" novel, "The Color of Magic."

It's attributed in the following quote from the book:

"It was octarine, the colour of magic. It was alive and glowing and vibrant and it was the undisputed pigment of the imagination, because wherever it appeared it was a sign that mere matter was a servant of the powers of the magical mind. It was enchantment itself."

Octarine is Pratchett's discovery -- a greenish-purple hue that he dreamed up as the 8th color of the visible spectrum and the titular subject of his first "Discworld" novel. In "Dota 2," the "Octarine Core" will be most advantageous to mages and intelligence-based characters. That said, this is one of the most expensive items in the game, making it a highly prized asset that successful heroes can be ambitious of in the latter parts of the game.

Terry Pratchett had a liking for poking subversive fun, making his point slyly rather than directly, and Valve's discreet addition of his favorite color is a fine match to his style.

Pratchett was also honored with a tribute in "Elite: Dangerous."
