Looks like DICE is all set to release the new "Mirror's Edge" in early 2016.

As part of its fourth quarter results for fiscal year 2015, EA (Electronic Arts) revealed that the next Mirror's Edge is slated to come out in the fourth quarter of FY2016, and it's worth waiting for.

EA confirmed Tuesday, May 5 that the new "Mirror's Edge" will be released in early 2016, and it says the game is coming to consoles and PC, alongside games like "Star Wars: Battlefront." It was also briefly mentioned on the investor's call that followed, albeit without more details.

The new "Mirror's Edge" was announced back in 2013 by DICE for next-generation consoles including PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. EA said at the time, the game "reboots the franchise for the next generation," and will deliver an all-new origin story for Mirror's Edge protagonist Faith, according to Polygon.

At last year's E3, DICE and EA offered an update on the development of the new Mirror's Edge, talking about their efforts to focus on the "building blocks" of Faith and working with parkour artists to tune her movement.

Last year, senior producer Sara Jansson said, "I wanted to let you know that the game is progressing nicely and I think you're going to love it."

Jansson noted that fans probably wish they would show more of the game. However, she admitted that they were still early in development and their "Mirror's Edge" team is working full on to make the best game possible.

While "Mirror's Edge" is listed among EA's releases for the coming fiscal year, recently announced sequel to last year's "Titanfall" won't be on the list. Investors were told on the call that it would be "more likely in [fiscal year] 2017."

The original "Mirror's Edge" was released in 2008, and in 2013 EA announced a new installment. This is often referred to "Mirror's Edge 2," however EA suggested something more like a prequel, telling the story of protagonist Faith Connors before the first game's events, The Verge noted.
