Looks like the third entry in the rebooted "Planet of the Apes" franchise finally has its title, and it's not the identical "Rise" and "Dawn."
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," the reboot sequel was one of the more successful movies in 2014, which just like its predecessor, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," impressed fans and critics alike. Both films have successfully combined the original 40-year-old "Planet of the Apes" concept, further adding an impressive new direction in order to strike a perfect balance between past and present.
All hope for peace and harmony between the humans and simians had been lost before the credits rolled in "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." Before a horde of apes, Caesar (Andy Serkis) puts forward his worst fear stating that the war has already begun.
The final line not only catches sight of the future of his world, but also teases the future of the Apes franchise, according to ScreenRant.
That said, the title of the upcoming film is not shocking. Sources tell Collider that the next film will carry the title, "War of the Planet of the Apes."
The new title ups the ante breaking from the interchangeable "Rise" and "Dawn" for the forthcoming Apes films.
Now that it looks like "War of the Planet of the Apes" is the official title, it certainly proposes that director Matt Reeves is aiming to create a thrilling, yet complex story that moves the Ape saga ahead, and turns out to be a unique film experience on its own.
Contrary to Rise, which was more of a science-fiction story of discovery, and Dawn, which centered on a dramatic study of Xenophobia and politics, the upcoming Ape film guarantees to be a war film?
Fans will need to wait and watch how much time will pass between Dawn and War. Reeves could either show the step-by-step beginnings of the battle or plunge the audience into the heart of a raging war.
"War of the Planet of the Apes" is slated for a summer 2017 release.
