The highly anticipated Ben Affleck thriller “The Accountant” is set to premiere on Jan. 29. This will be the actor’s first film since “Gone Girl.”
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, "The Accountant" movie follows the story of an accountant who moonlights as an assassin. The film stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and is directed by Gavin O'Connor.
Ben Affleck found himself in the middle of a controversy when it was revealed that he pressured the producers of "Finding Your Roots" to edit out the slave ownership in his ancestry.
In a statement, the show's host Professor Henry Louis Gates held that slave ownership was not exactly unusual during those times.
"In the case of Mr Affleck - we focused on what we felt were the most interesting aspects of his ancestry - including a Revolutionary War ancestor, a third great-grandfather who was an occult enthusiast and his mother who marched for Civil Rights during the Freedom Summer of 1964."
The actor immediately took to Facebook to apologize and admitted that he indeed try to cover up his ancestor's past.
"I didn't want any television show about my family to include a guy who owned slaves. I was embarrassed. The very thought left a bad taste in my mouth."
"I regret my initial thoughts that the issue of slavery not be included in the story."
"We deserve neither credit nor blame for our ancestors and the degree of interest in this story suggests that we are, as a nation, still grappling with the terrible legacy of slavery. It is an examination well worth continuing."
It was mentioned that PBS will be conducting an internal review following the incident.
Huffington Post reported that the producers might have violated the network's editorial standards by yielding to "The Accountant" actor's request.
