Kim Tae Hee and Joo Won are both considering roles in an upcoming SBS medical drama titled "Yong Pal Yi."
"Yong Pal Yi" is the story of a man who becomes a doctor but even a doctor's salary does not save him from crippling debt. He suffers that debt because of his younger sister's expensive kidney dialysis treatment.
Kim Tae Hee'a agency, Lua Entertainment, confirmed that the actress is up for a role in the drama.
"It is true that 'Yong Pal Yi' is among the offers that she is reviewing," said the Lua Entertainment representative. "However, nothing has been decided yet."
Kim Tae Hee's last drama was "Jang Ok Jung: Live for Love," the story of a famous Joseon Dynasty concubine accused of murder. The drama earned an average of 9.4 percent in the ratings. Kim, who played the title role, was nominated for an SBS Drama Excellence Award.
After that the 35-year-old actress appeared in the 2014 Chinese drama, "Wang Xizhi," playing the wife of a famed calligrapher.
Although "Yong Pal Yi" would be Kim Tae Hee's first medical drama, she previously played a medical student attending Harvard University in the drama "Love Story in Harvard." In that drama her character became a doctor with a humanitarian medical organization in a third world country and that choice ended a romantic relationship.
Joo Won's agency, Sim Entertainment, also confirmed that the 27-year-old actor received an offer to appear in 'Yong Pal Yi."
"He is reviewing the offer positively," said the Sim Entertainment representative.
Joo Won also has experience playing a doctor. In the drama "Good Doctor," he played an autistic savant doctor. His character has an amazing memory and diagnostic special skills but due to a developmental disorder he lacked the social skills to engage effectively with other doctors. The drama was a big hit, averaging 18.0 in the ratings.
Joo Won's next drama, "Tomorrow Cantabile," did not do as well in the ratings. In that drama, based on a Japanese manga, he played a perfectionist classical music student who wants to be a conductor. Tomorrow Cantabile" only averaged 5.9 percent in viewer ratings.
"Yong Pal Yi" is scheduled to air after the end of "Mask" in August.
