The man behind the campy "Sharknado" franchise is thinking of expanding the universe into a full-blown musical.
In an interview, screenwriter Thunder Levin said that he thinks "it would be hilarious to do "Sharknado: The Musical."
"I've been proposing that since the first one became a hit on the first night," he said. "They could get some Broadway musical guys to write the songs and the music, but you've got to let me write the script. We could call it 'Sharknado: The Great White Way.'"
The concept of "Sharknado" the musical started with "Sharknado 2: The Second One."
He explained, "When we were first throwing around the titles for the second one, one of the ones I suggested was 'Sharknado 2: Live on Broadway,' because we knew it was going to be shot in New York. So I could definitely see it as a musical."
Broadway World ran an article that hilariously suggested several possible leads for "Sharknado" the musical.
Among the possible leads would be the shark from Steven Spielberg's "JAWS!"
"Since his starring role in the Jaws franchise, this Great White was last seen at Universal Studios Orlando park tram ride. We're pretty sure he'd be happy to come out of retirement for the musical gig," it said.
"Will Smith starred as 'Oscar', the fast-talking little fish in the animated comedy SHARK TALES," the article added. "The film boasted an A-list roster of celebrity voiced sharks, including Frankie (Michael Imperioli), notorious mafia shark Don Lino (Robert De Niro), and the vegetarian do-gooder, Lenny (Jack Black). We think any of the above would be up for the role!"
However, Thunder Levin has bigger ambitions for the cast of "Sharknado" the musical as he wished William Shatner of Harrison Ford would sign on for the project. In fact, there were already some talks with the "Star Trek" actor.
"I don't think anyone has actually contacted Harrison Ford because what would be the odds?" he said.
