"Yawang" Actress Soo Ae shined the most in this dramatic story.
With an impressive viewing rate of over 20%, this Monday-Tuesday drama "Yawang" was in the spotlight for the extreme situations that have been featured throughout the drama. The story ended with Joo Da Hae's (Soo Ae) life coming to an end. Even in the depressing and frustrating story line, actress Soo Ae somehow managed to shine through brightly.
"Yawang" drew attention for its famous original story as well as for it being actor Kwon Sang Woo's first appearance in a drama after 3 years. The story contained a constantly reoccurring theme of revenge and the speedy development of the story kept the viewers on the edge of their seats.
Within a month after the drama began airing, "Yawang" received a viewing rate of over 15% and continued to rise. "Yawang" was head-to-head with the popular drama "The Horse Healer" but eventually received the highest rating when the last episode of "The Horse Healer" aired.
The reason "Yawang" received so much attention was because of its characters that pushed their limits, not to mention the eye-catching story. Towards the middle however, the story line began to resemble a typical drama with a villain and each character began to lose their distinct personality and purpose.
The story just continued to get more and more twisted as the production crew failed to convince their viewers. Regardless of this, viewers remained glued to their seats as they continued to wait for the conclusion of the story.
** Actress Soo Ae 'Saves the Day' for "Yawang"
Throughout its 24 episodes, Soo Ae shined through while portraying the femme fatale character Joo Da Hae. Even when Joo Da Hae went beyond a villain into a psychopath, Soo Ae's calm and talented acting took our breath away. What if somebody other than Soo Ae played this role? It's horrifying to even imagine.
Soo Ae is the only actress who could portray such an evil character with charisma and poise. With her low toned voice and clear pronunciation, not to mention her detailed face expressions, she captivated the audience.
The level of her concentration in her role was also impressive. Whenever Soo Ae appeared on TV, viewers couldn't take their eyes off of her. Regardless of the terrible acts Joo Da Hae committed throughout the drama, she maintained a love-and-hate relationship with her viewers. Regardless of her actions that horrified them, viewers felt Soo Ae's special presence. Soo Ae's significance in the drama gave the whole drama stability and drew attention until the end.
The three months "Yawang" aired must have definitely been a difficult time for Soo Ae. It must have been unbelievably stressful and difficult to understand a character that even the viewers couldn't understand and sympathize with. Especially with the overnight shootings and last minute completion of the script, it was not something anybody can handle just as well as Soo Ae did.
Soo Ae needs a round of applause for her incredible performance in the SBS dram "Yawang". With a tight foundation of her acting skills built up in the past 14 years played a significant role in stabilizing the story that has been constantly criticized. After all the difficulty she must have had to endure through, Soo Ae deserves to be applauded more than anybody else.
