Chinese start-up OnePlus unveiled the follow-up to OnePlus One, the OnePlus 2 with features that match the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6.
Back in April, the Chinese smartphone maker announced that OnePlus One will be available to everyone without an invite citing the difficulty consumer faced while actually buying the smartphone.
However, at the time OnePlus also confirmed that One's successor, the OnePlus 2 will initially launch with invites.
The OnePlus 2, that boasts iPhone-type specs, will be available to consumers at half the price of an iPhone.
On Monday, July 27, OnePlus' Carl noted in a blog post that the company has been without a new product for 460 days, but now the team that has "seen tremendous personal growth" is ready.
With an unsubsidized starting price of $330, it's worth noting that the OnePlus 2 packs impressive features that match the standards of the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S6.
According to records on Yahoo Tech, OnePlus 2 boasts of a sharp 5.5-inch 1080p display, which is clearly bigger than the 4.7-inch screen the iPhone 6 sports. The Galaxy S6 on the other hand features a 5-inch panel.
While the OnePlus One sported a comparatively sapless design, the OnePlus 2 will be available to smartphone users that can chose between wooden and Kevlar back panels.
Just like its forerunner, the OnePlus 2 runs a modified version of Android operating system. The only difference here is that the OnePlus 2 features OnePlus' own OxygenOS, while the OnePlus One ran the CyanogenMod.
Also, what gives the OnePlus 2 an edge over brands such as Samsung and LG is the fact that the smartphone does not come packed with a slew of extra apps and themes.
Aside from a large display and new OS, the OnePlus 2 packs a super-fast processor coupled with 4GB of memory. The low-cost handset will be able to run apps as well as games at speeds comparable to other expensive smartphones. In terms of storage, OnePlus 2 comes in base 16GB model as well as a 64GB option that cost $389.
Another report from The Verge points out that the OnePlus 2 features a 13MP sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS). The front camera on the other hand is apt for shooting selfies at 5MP. Moreover, the back camera features a two-toned flash as well as a laser focusing system.
The OnePlus 2 boasts of the new USB Type-C connector that allows users to charge their phone and transfer data from it to PC. Unlike micro-USB cables or Apple's Lighting cable, USB Type-C connector also allow users to charge their laptop.
But that's not all; the cable is also capable of carrying signals, thus making it possible to connect the device to TV to stream movies.
OnePlus 2 unlocks with a built-in fingerprint reader just like the Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6.
