The first KCON NY event that took place on August 8 featured a concert with four popular k-pop groups, Girls Generation, Teen Top, AOA and VIXX. Unlike KCON LA, the three-day California-based convention that took place a week earlier, the New York KCON did not advertise that any actors would be guests.
But that does not mean k-drama fans were disappointed. Each of the four groups performing at that concert had more than one acting idol.
All four groups smiled for the cameras at the press conference, which preceded the event and shared how happy they were to be in the U.S. Girls Generation members even wore sparkling red white and blue outfits to honor their American visit.
While they all came as members of their groups, fans of their acting were also happy to see them.
Several members of Girls Generation have tried their hand at acting. The two members we have seen most recently were Choi Soo Young and Yoona. Choi Soo Young played young heat transplant recipient to finds herself oddly attracted to her donor's husband in "Spring Days." Yoona's most recent drama was "The Prime Minister and I" with Lee Bum Soo. Sunny has dubbed animated films, while Tiffany had a cameo in "The Producers." Hyoyeon played herself in "Oh My Lady," Yuri appeared in the film "No Breathing" and had a cameo in the drama "Kill Me, Heal Me." Seohyun had cameos in "Producer" and "Warm and Cozy."
AOA's Seolhyun had a leading role in the vampire drama "Orange Marmalade." Hye Jeong had roles in "Gentleman's Dignity," Cheomdamdong Alice" and "The Blade and the Petal." Kwon Mina appeared in "Modern Farmer."
And then there were the boy bands VIXX and TEEN TOP.
VIXX's N appeared in "The Heirs," "Hotel King" and "Family Is Coming." Leo, Hyuk, and Lee Hong Bin had cameos in "The Heirs" and "Glorious Day." Ken and Ravi also appeared in "The Heirs."
Teen Top also has some acting idols. Niel appeared in the dramas "Two Weeks" with Lee Jun Ki, and "Swedish Laundry." L.Joe was in Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit" and "Missing Noir M." Changjo was also in "Swedish Laundry."
That's a lot of idol actors between four k-pop groups. And the fans that showed up for the first New York-based event were happy to catch a glimpse of them. Altogether, 17,000 fans showed up for the event.
