The talented Lee Seung Gi is not only the star of the popular drama, "Gu Family Book," but this week the singer-turned-actor contributed a sweet romantic ballad to the soundtrack. It's a song that he co-wrote, composed and produced.
The song, "The Last Word" is a ballad expressing the love felt by his character Choi Kang Chi for his loyal friend and love interest, Dam Yeo Wool, played by Suzy Bae. Choi Kang Chi is a half-human, half-mythical creature. Despite the occasional appearance of his claws, Dam Yeo Wool stands by him and fights by his side. So, not only does the ballad express the growing love Choi Kang Chi feels for her, but also his gratitude for her loyalty in the face of his often terrifying true nature. Thanks to an interesting storyline and strong performances by the two lead actors, the series has been a ratings winner since it started, consistently leading in its time slot.
Lee Seung Gi worked on the song with Double Kick Project, which has already created several hit songs, including Sistar's "Loving You," Leessang's "Teardrop" and Davichi's "Tortoise." There are two versions of "The Last Word." One is instrumental and the other version features Lee Seung Gi singing. The song will be featured in this week's episodes. It has also been released on the Loen Entertainment official Youtube channel.
Also included on the drama's OST are Yisabel singing "My Eden," Lee Sang Gon of Noel singing "Love Hurts" and Lee Ji Young of Big Mama singing "Love is Blowing."
Lee Seung Gi made his official singing debut at age 17 with the ballad "Because You're My Girl." The song, about a young man in love with an older woman, won him a "Best Newcomer" award at various music ceremonies.
In 2009 he released a single, "Will You Marry Me," which earned him a "Digital Single Bonsang" award. He recorded a duet version of his song "Smile Boy" with figure skater Kim Yuna and it became the official 2010 FIFA World Cup song.
His most recent album is "Forest." One of the album's songs, "Return," topped several music charts for a few weeks in a row and set the record for being number one for six consecutive weeks on Billboard's K-Pop Hot 100.
