Was the idea for the film "No Breathing" inspired by a statement made by Girls Generation's Sooyoung on the Mnet show "Beatle Code?"
It was on that show two years ago that Sooyoung talked about how much she envied fellow band member Kwon Yuri's swimming abilities.
Not only did Sooyoung say that Yuri was very talented at swimming, but she added that Yuri was also prettier in the water than she was on stage.
One reason that Yuri can ace the butterfly stroke is that before she became a singer, she took plenty of swimming lessons.
"I learned swimming when I was young," she said during that televised interview. "Before I became a trainee, I dreamt of becoming a professional swimmer."
Those lessons will come in handy as she films "No Breathing," Korea's first swimming themed film.
She will have the opportunity to hit the pool with her film co-stars Seo In Guk and Lee Jong Suk. They play her childhood friends in the movie. They become rivals in trying to win her love and competing to see who is the best swimmer.
Woo Sang, played by Lee Jong Suk, is a nationally ranked swimmer, who is obsessed with achieving the top spot. Won Il, played by Seo In Guk, is a swimmer who stayed away from the sport for a while but is now making a comeback.
Yuri plays Jung Eun, a girl who dreams of becoming a musician. The character has a lot going for her. She has an easygoing personality, is a talented singer, and has a pretty face.
"I'm happy to have the chance to show another side of myself in this film," said Yuri before filming began. "I came to like the character after reading the script and was inspired to act in it. I'll work hard to make the movie a success."
Playing the role of Choi Anna in "Fashion King" won Yuri a New Star award. She also had a cameo appearance in "Attack of the Pin Up Boys" and a minor role in "The King's Boyfriend," which was part of a Super Junior documentary.
She recently updated fans with the message that she was learning to play the guitar for her "No Breathing" role and getting blistered fingers for her efforts. Hopefully the role will also give her more than one chance to demonstrate her superior swimming skills.
The film will be released later this year.
