Is Drake a distraction for Serena Williams' quest to become the most dominant female tennis player of all time?
A piece from Natalie Finn for E! News has put the blame on the recent loss by Serena Williams on the US Open semifinal to the 43rd-ranked player to her rumored boyfriend Drake.
The pain of that loss go much deeper than their respective ranks, but also it deprived Serena Wiliams of another chance to tie Stefi Graf for the most number of Grand Slam singles, or achieve the calendar-year Grand Slam.
"To be fair, Drake being at Wimbledon did not ruin Serena Williams' tournament. She won the whole thing this summer," she wrote.
However, she wrote, "It is just too fun and convenient to blame her longtime friend and rumored new beau, Drake."
Perhaps, what Natalie Finn described as a "Drake curse" has rubbed off on Serena Williams?
First off, there was the $25,000 fine the Toronto Raptors incurred because of Drake because of the joke he made during a concert.
The article also linked Drake to the misfortunes suffered from several other teams and athletes, such as the Miami Heat's loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, the lackluster season by Johnny Manziel for the Cleveland Browns and the loss of Kentucky Wildcats to Wisconsin.
Serena Williams and Drake were first rumored to be dating when the Canadian rapper was a constant fixture in her matches. Then a photo was published by TMZ where the two appeared to be getting cozy and at one point, they even looked like they were kissing.
"The two had a private room in the back of the eatery -- where they couldn't keep their hands and lips off of each other ... while several patrons watched," TMZ said. "People inside the restaurant tell us the two were joined by 6 other people ...and at one point ordered a round of tequila shots for the table."
