There are rumors that Ian Somerhalder is contemplating leaving "The Vampire Diaries" as many fans are purportedly not as enthusiastic towards the show as they were when Nina Dobrev was still playing the role of Elena Gilbert.

According to a report, Ian Somerhalder is now setting his sights on a movie role that is expected to lead his career transition from being a TV actor to becoming a fully fledged movie star - "Fifty Shades Darker."

"Casting rumors have be swirling with new characters that will be added to the saga, and there is a strong possibility Ian Somerhalder will take on the role of Jack Hyde," Celeb Dirty Laundry reported.

"Henry Cavill was briefly speculated as being interested in taking the role, but the 'Batman Vs. Superman' star quickly debunked the rumors. Theo James is also said to be in the running for the role of Jack, but Ian's fans are hopeful to see Somerhalder on the movie screen."

But what does the wife of the "The Vampire Diaries" actor think about him starring in "Fifty Shades Darker" movie?

Apparently, Nikki Reed is purportedly on board. Ian Somerhalder's wife purportedly hopes that "Fifty Shades Darker" movie would recreate a new identity for Ian Somerhalder and end his association with "The Vampire Diaries" and ex-girlfriend, Nina Dobrev.

Though Nina Dobrev has quit "The Vampire Diaries" a few months after Ian Somerhalder and his now wife, Nikki Reed, got engaged, the actor has still been constantly linked with his ex-girlfriend of three years.

However, it seems that Ian is yet to decide if he would take the advice of his wife, Nikki Reed, and take on the role on the saga.

"Ian hasn't responded to the 'Fifty Shades Darker' casting rumor, but the role would ensure at least 2 films for Somerhalder's resume," CDL's report continued. "The part of Jack Hyde will continue onto to the third installment of the series with 'Fifty Shades Freed.'"
