Yeo Jin Goo has been acting for 10 years. He debuted in the film "Sad Movie" when he was only nine. And his most recent role was playing a North Korean soldier in the film "The Long Way Home."
The film is set during the Korean War, three days before a truce takes place. Yeo plays Young Gwang, a soldier assigned to the tank crew. A bomb kills the rest of his team and he's about to return home when he finds a top-secret document. He also comes face to face with a South Korean soldier named Nam Bok, played by Seol Kyung Gu. The former farmer was assigned to deliver that document before he lost it.
They fight but eventually come to realize they are both victims of the war.
In an interview with the Korean media outlet My Daily, Yeo Jin Goo spoke about his role in the film. He said that Young Gwang was a lot like him.
"I think I'm more like Young Gwang out of all the characters I played," said Yeo Jin Goo. "It was hard trying to get away from the character in the end."
The star of the films "Hwayi" and "Shoot Me In The Heart" said this role was different for him because he expressed more of his own personality. And there was a lot of improvisation. He also learned a lot about concentration from watching his co-star Seol Kyung Gu, who also appeared in "Cold Eyes" and "Lucid Dream."
"I couldn't tell if it was Seol Kyung Gu or Nam Bok on the set."
He numbers Seol Kyung Gu among the actors he admires, along with Song Kang Ho, Choi Min Sik and Ha Jung Woo. And he would love to play a bad guy.
"I can't forget the Joker from 'The Dark Knight Also Rises. He's so appealing. I couldn't get over the strong appeal."
But that's not all he wants to try.
"I also want to try musicals or theater. An actor should face his fears and his fans on stage and communicate with them."
Yeo, who also starred in the dramas "Orange Marmalade," "Potato Star 2013QR3," Missing You" and "The Moon Embracing The Sun," has plenty of time to play those roles, as despite his long list of acting credits he is not yet 20.
"The Long Way Home" also stars Lee Kyoung Young, Jung Sung Hwa, Jung In Gi, Kim Won Hae and Kim Tae Hoon.
