A lot of "Scandal" fans have been raving about the season 5 episode 1 of the Shonda Rhimes political thriller. The season 5 premiere showed what happened to the "Scandal" characters after the events of the season 4 finale.
Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, is in a full-blown secret relationship with President Fitzgerald Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn. Mellie Grant, played by Belamy young, is trying to cope with Fitz expressing his desire to file for divorce, while Huck, played by Guillermo Diaz, is still trying to "fix" himself after conspiring with Rowan Pope, played by Joe Morton.
Along with these developments, the main plot of "Scandal" season 5 episode 1 has Olivia being hired by the Queen Isabel of Caledonia to handle the media crisis of her daughter-in-law, Iowa-born Princess Emily, dying in a car accident in a tunnel while visiting Washington D.C.
"Olivia's called to the scene of a terrible car accident - shades of Princess Diana here - where Princess Emily lies dead, the paparazzi's flashbulbs lighting up her bloodied corpse," TV Line wrote in an article recapping the season 5 episode 1 of "Scandal."
"A horrified Olivia covers the body with her coat. 'Have some respect!' Game on, Gladiators!" the report continued.
A car accident in a tunnel in a foreign land, killing a princess who is fated to be queen someday, some fans will realize that the scene is reminiscent of the death of Princess Diana.
Moreover, it was later revealed in the episode that Princess Emily's death was planned by Queen Isabel to prevent a scandal rooting from her being pregnant with a child that is not the Prince's - a story also similar to a conspiracy theory about Princess Diana's death.
Are Royal Fans agitated that the political thriller's plot is a little too similar to rumors surrounding the demise of the "People's Princess"?
A Russian author, Gennady Sokolov, wrote a book about the alleged possibility that Princess Diana's death was planned. The author reportedly cited inconsistencies surrounding Lady Di's death, suggesting that there was a cover up.
"Diana became a real threat to the Windsors," Sokolov wrote, as previously quoted by Celeb Dirty Laundry.
"There was a strong rumor she was pregnant and I think that it was not a coincidence that her body was mummified an hour before it was sent to London. After that it would be impossible to identify if she was pregnant."
