Absence does make the heart grow fonder. And it can have a positive effect on the ratings. After an episode of "She Was Pretty" was cancelled due to extended innings of a baseball game, the drama returned with even higher ratings.
According to the Korean media outlet TV Daily, the drama beat its own personal record on Thursday with ratings rising to 16. 7 percent. That's a jump of 2.2 percent. Viewers wanted to see the back story behind the transformation of lead actress Hwang Jung Eum, who traded in her character Hye Jin's frumpy looks for a more sophisticated one.
Also, Park Seo Joon's character was developing feelings for Kim Hye Jin that might be accerated by the makeover. Choi Si Won's realization that his boss's feelings were changing set the love triangle up for some dramatic showdowns. When there was even the possibility of her getting into an accident, both men rushed to the scene to rescue her, Park Seo Joon's character overcoming his traumatic fear of driving through the rain.
And the ratings may have been helped by the fact that there were a few cameos of k-drama actors arriving at the Most magazine anniversary event. Those actors included Park Hyung Sik, Uee, Sung Joon and Seo In Guk.
"The Merchant of Gaek Ju 2015," starring Jang Hyuk and Han Chae Ah, returned to second place on October 15 with 10.0 percent of the ratings. The drama is based on "Gaekju," Kim Joo Young's ten-volume novel which was serialized in daily newspaper The Seoul Shinmun from June 1979 to February 1983.
"The Village - Achiara's Secret," starring Moon Geun Young and Yook Sung Jae lost percentage points overnight, returning to 5.2 percent.
The drama tells the story of a school teacher, played by Moon Geun Young, who moves to a seemingly peaceful village. There seems to be no crime in the village until a body is discovered. The schoolteacher helps the village's newest police officer, played by Yook Sung Jae, solve the crime. By this point the corpse has been identified but there is more than one suspect for the crime.
