Another idol star is expanding his acting resume. MIB member Kang Nam has confirmed his participation in the upcoming Chosun TV drama "One And Only You." In the drama he plays Tae Hyun, a member of the fictional idol band Pentagon. "One And Only You" has been described as a romantic comedy about an idol group, about falling in love, and about a scandal which involves a top star.
"This is my first drama since my debut, so I am nervous," said Kang Nam. "But I hope this will give me a chance to show a different side. I can also dance and sing all I like."
Not a whole lot is known yet about this 16-episode drama, except that in August 2015, it was reported that VIXX's Hong Bin would play the leader of the five-member idol group.
Kang Nam's character is said to be the stylish member of the group.
Kang Nam became popular as a solo artist, as a member of MIB and also because of his appearances on variety shows such as "Let's Go To School" and "I Live Alone." He's also an accomplished guitarist and pianist.
Audiences know Kang Nam by his stage name rather than his birth name, which is Yasuo Namekawa. The Korean-Japanese singer was born in Japan to a Korean mom and a Japanese dad but attended school in both Japan and the U.S. before debuting as a member of MIB.
In February he was appointed the honorary ambassador for the fourth KCON music festival and convention that would be held in Japan for the first time. His fluency in English, Japanese and Korean enabled him to act as a bridge between cultures.
Although he describes "My One And Only" as his first acting role, he did have a supporting role in the 2012 tvN sitcom "21st Century Family." At the time he made a similar statement about being nervous but viewing his role as an opportunity to show a different side of himself.
The drama is set to air in December.
