Google has quietly put an invite-only "Who's Down?" app into its Play and Apple App stores on Friday, reported Venture Beat. The app is aimed to make meeting up with friends easier and faster. It quickly shows who is available and willing to hang out.
The app is not meant for hookup, just for meetups. A switch or a sliding button is available in the app through which users can flip when they are down to hang, set a time period and wait for others to do the same.
It can even be customized to specify what it is the user is down for, such as, eating out, coffee, studying or simply chit chat. Phandroid thinks that "Netflix and chill" would be a popular choice among the young people. Friends willing to meet up can chat through the app's conversation window.
TechCrunch was able to get inside the iOS version of Who's Down app. After moving the slider indicating that the user is "down" to meet up, the app asked for an activity name the user is interested in doing, also providing suggestions of popular selections.
After selecting "down to hang," the app waited for other people's signal that they are interested in the same activity and when there are those who will indicate similar interest, the app will notify the user and slide seamlessly into a chat room. The conversations in the chat room will be erased after 24 hours from the last activity.
The concept of Who's Down app is not new, as it is similar to "Shortnotice," and "Free," said TechCrunch.
Though for invite-only, anyone can request for the app by downloading it and entering an email address and school. School is required because the app may be geared for students or Google perhaps wants it be local, like Yikyak app.
The Who's Down app maybe available soon as it is titled, "FALL 2015."
