Divorce rumors have been hounding Jay Z and Beyonce, and now an unauthorized biography by J. Randy Tarabolli will allegedly shed light on the troubles surrounding the marriage of the power couple.
According to the celebrity biographer, Beyonce and Jay Z split in 2005 for about a year over rumors that he cheated on Rihanna.
But Jonathan Hay, a publicist who work for producer Vada Nobles, has come out to take responsibility for spreading the rumor to drum up interest for the "Pon de Replay" track. He issued the apology after he was named in the autobiography.
"I was blindsided by the news of 'Becoming Beyoncé' coming out and it couldn't come at a worse time for me," Hay said. "I'm currently releasing projects with my label Urban Hitchcock through Tidal, a company that is owned by Jay Z and Beyoncé ... Hopefully this news hasn't ruined that relationship for me."
"The pr stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break 'Pon de Replay'," he added. "It was reckless and I didn't think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick."
Indeed, the PR stunt worked as "Pon de Replay" peaked at the no. 2 on 2005 Billboard charts.
"One by one, two by two, everyone in the club was certainly rocking to the beat of this 2005 single, which made it all the way to No. 2 on the Hot 100 and helped establish Rihanna as a hitmaker to be reckoned with," Billboard said.
Hay also claimed to have apologized personally to both Jay Z and Beyonce, but the damage has been done because the rumor almost allegedly ended up in divorce for the power couple.
Even years later, Rihanna remained a sensitive topic for Jay Z and Beyonce and in fact, the clip of Solange attacking the rapper in the elevator was prompted by his suggestion that they attend a party that RiRi was hosting.
Nevertheless, even after the Rihanna saga blew over, divorce rumors still hound Jay Z and Beyonce on various issues.
