Zooey Deschanel showed off again her quirky side when she revealed that her baby daughter's name was inspired by a cute mammal. Meanwhile, it's been rumored that the "New Girl" star, raised Roman Catholic, has embraced her husband's faith.

Speaking to the "Today" show, per Daily Mail, Zooey Deschanel revealed the meaning behind Elsie Otter.

"We just really loved the name Elsie and we both love otters," she said. "They are very sweet and they are also smart. They use tools, they keep their favorite tools. They hold hands while they sleep."

"There are so many amazing things about otters. Who doesn't love otters?"

But what if Zooey Deschanel's baby doesn't love otters?

"She better love otters," the "New Girl" star laughed. "We don't know yet because she's only a few months old. But she's going to."

The couple welcomed Elsie Otter in late July.

Meanwhile, the Irish Examiner reported that the "New Girl" star has converted to Judaism for her husband, Jacob Pechenik.

"Zooey converted to Judaism for Jacob," the source claimed.

In an earlier interview for Vulture, she explained her eclectic background as her mother is Catholic while her father was a Quaker.

"My family is liberal. I was raised in the 'you can be whatever you want' kind of way. And in the end, I was like, 'Eh.' I mean I'm interested in theology, and I love reading about it. But I don't attach myself to any one religion or other," she said.

During that same interview, she also dished how she refused to be saddled by a certain body type that Hollywood proposes.

"I think a lot of people think that they need to conform to some weird Hollywood idea of ... and actually, I don't think that the pressure is external," she said. "I think a lot of actresses feel this internal pressure to be unrealistic."

Zooey Deschanel continued, "And I don't feel that, and I actually feel like that is a place to start. Like, I don't want people to watch TV and think, 'Everybody is 85 pounds!' You know what I mean? That's crazy. Normal people aren't 85 pounds."

While Zooey Deschanel confirmed the name of her baby daughter, the "New Girl" star is mum about the rumor that she converted to Judaism.
