George Clooney and wife Amal Alamuddin are reportedly taking the cue from Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to adopt a child from Syria, not only to complete their family but also to raise awareness on what's happening in that country.
According to Australia's Woman's Day magazine, the power couple hopes that the adoption of a Syrian child will "highlight the plight of orphans in countries like Syria."
However, Daily Mail said that George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's intentions are noble, it would be difficult for them to adopt a child from Syria.
"The US embassy in Damascus states that Syria 'as a Shari'ah law country, does not recognize or provide for adoptions of Muslim children,"' it said. "'Several attempts by U.S. prospective adoptive parents have failed.'"
"The Embassy's understanding is that until specific Decree 76-compliant previsions have been developed to address adoption for specific denominations, it is not possible to adopt in Syria," it added.
Closer magazine, meanwhile, said that former People's Sexiest Man Alive George Clooney is open to adopting a baby with wife Amal Alamuddin.
"George never expected to find the happiness he has with Amal so is now open to the possibility of becoming a family man," the insider claimed. "He and Amal have both said they love the idea of adopting a child in need in the future and have spoken to Brad and Angelina about this. George sees the bond Brad shares with his children and he wants that too."
In 2006, during an interview with People, George Glooney is open to having children.
"I think it's the most responsible thing you can do, to have kids. It's not something to be taken lightly. I don't have that gene that people have to replicate. But everything in my life has changed over time," he said.
If indeed it's true that George Clooney and wife Amal Alamuddin are adopting a child, they can turn to his BFF, Brad Pitt who has three adopted children with Angelina Jolie, including Zahara who came from a war-torn area in Ethiopia, for help.
