Blink 182's new album is humming right along as drummer Travis Barker revealed in a recent interview that they already finished with five tracks in collaboration with vocalist Matt Skiba of the punk-rock band, Alkaline Trio.
After selling over 35 millions units worldwide, the band has disbanded in 2005 after over two decades together, and frontman Tom DeLonge Jr. has already moved on to lead Angels & Airwaves.
Travis Barker told NME that Blink 182's new album may sound different but will still resonate with fans.
"They sound different but still the same," he said. "Obviously, it's Matt Skiba singing so there's hints of Alkaline Trio, or at least Matt's contributions to Alkaline Trio, mixed with my drumming and Mark's voice and stuff. It's really cool and I really love what we've done so far."
The drummer was also all praises for Matt Skiba for collaborating with Blink 182 for the band's new album.
"He's fun to play with and write with," he said. "We're just getting started but I think we've got like four or five songs right now that I'm really, really happy with. There's a song called 'Punk Rock Cliché' which I love the most right now. It's about friends of ours and their relationships."
But really, the ultimate goal of Blink 182 is to produce a new album.
"We don't put a limit on how many songs we're gonna write. [We just] Write a bunch of songs and when we feel like there's an album ready, there's an album ready. You know, no pressure, no deadlines," he added.
Meanwhile, those who are waiting for Blink 182's new album can wax nostalgic by purchasing four of the band's previous albums in cassette by Dec. 8. The albums are "Dude Ranch," "Enema of the State," "The Mark, Tom and Travis Show" and the self-titled album.
"The cassettes will no doubt serve as a fond trip down memory lane for fans disheartened by the trio's falling out at the beginning of the year," Diffuser said.
