If you were in a hurry to enjoy some 1994 nostalgia, there's good news. The new drama "Reply 1994" is going to air one week earlier than expected. "Reply 1994" will premiere on Oct. 11 with a special episode and then begin with the first regular episode on Oct. 18th.
The series will start with Episode 0 to introduce the story and the characters. "Reply 1997" started out in a similar way.
"In Episode 0, you'll get a sense of what kinds of stories and past times will appear in the drama," said the drama's director Shin Won Ho. "It will be full of interesting things to see, so please watch it and support us."
"Reply 1994" is not a spin-off of the previously successful "Reply 1997," says Shin Won Ho, but a coming of age story with its own characters and plotline.
"Reply 1997" told the story of five friends who meet for a high school reunion dinner and recall their glory days attending high school in 1997. The popular drama starred Jung Eun Ji, Seo In Guk and Infinite's Hoya.
In "Reply 1994," three young men take rooms in a boarding house while attending university.
Yoo Yeon Seok who played Park Tae So in "Gu Family Book" and Jae Wook in the film "Architecture 101," plays one of the young men living in the boarding house. Playing his roommates are Jung Woo, who played Seo Jae Wook in "You're the Best Lee Soon Shin," and Kim Sung Kyun, who had a cameo as a detective in "I Hear Your Voice."
The couple that runs the boarding house has a daughter, played by Go Ara. She's a girl with an easygoing personality who is a big fan of basketball player Lee Sang Min. Go Ara's last drama appearance was in "Who Are You?" which she acted in with Yoon Kye Sang. In the last few years she has focused on making films, with her last role being Joon in the film "Papa."
Making the drama appealing to kpop fans is the addition of Baro of B1A4.
The story is based on the experiences of director Shin Won Ho and the drama's writer Lee Woo Jung who entered college in 1994 and never forgot their college years. Going back to 1994 was their original idea for a drama. However, they wound up making their first drama "Reply 1997" which was set three years later. But they never forgot the idea of indulging in some 1994 nostalgia, so they are back with the new series.
"Reply 1994" will focus on such nostalgia as the idol group Seo Taiji and the Boys and the Korean Basketball League.
