Julianne Hough apologized on her Twitter account for her Halloween costume, which is Crazy Eyes, on Saturday, Oct. 26, Fox News reported.
Julianne Hough chose a Halloween costume that is now controversial. She donned a blackface while dressing up as Crazy Eyes from the hit series Orange Is the New Black during a Halloween party on Friday, Oct. 25.
In addition to that, the star also wore a prison orange over a long-sleeve gray T-shirt. Her whole face was black. She also had an ID tag featuring the TV character.
The 25-year-old actress was with several friends who were also dressed an inmates but with no dark makeup. In front of the line, a male friend was dressed as a prison warden.
Joan Duvall-Flynn, President of the Media Area Unit of NAACP of Pennsylvania, said to Fox News that the actress has to apologize.
"The current racial tensions in the United States require careful reflection as we relate to each other. If her behavior is a political statement, she should explain that," she said. "If her behavior is an act of impulsive insensitivity, she needs, as a public figure, to be more responsible. And, an apology for such insensitivity is appropriate."
The actress quickly apologized using her Twitter account after many people reacted badly to her Halloween costume.
Hough wrote: "I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."
