K-dramas always consist of nasty villains. The most ruthless antagonists are from crime and thriller dramas. Romantic Comedy and melodramas also showed hateful villains that kept us cheering for the heroes and heroines. Here are 4 of the most common villain tropes that you have seen in K-dramas:

1. The Villain Who Is Hungry For Power

A government official or a royal family member who wants to steal the throne or put down the current ruler is always present in dramas. Sometimes a family member of the protagonist is the one who prevents the success of the future CEO.

Kim Byung Chul is famous for his power-hungry characters. In Goblin, he is the cunning eunuch named Park Joong Hoon who manipulated and brainwashed the King. He also played the role of a law professor named Cha Min Hyuk. He bullied his own children in order to become top students in terms of academics so that he can brag about it.

2. The Hostile Rival or Ex Who Gets Obsessed

A woman who wants to get her ex-boyfriend back after realizing her mistakes. A man who develops feelings for the heroine and believes he is the right man for her. These are the obsessed exes or rivals that will do anything just to destroy the sweet and loving relationship of the main pair.

In The Heirs, Kim Ji Won's character is a rich and arrogant heiress who happens to be Kim Tan's (Lee Min Ho) fiancée. She finds out that Kim Tan likes an ordinary student who is working as their housemaid. She is desperate to give the girl a hard time and win her fiancée back.

3. The Psychopathic Convict

These are the criminals who do pure evil things such as killing, torturing, and telling lies in order to survive or get even. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon is a drama that contains this kind of antagonist. Jang Mi Kwan plays Kim Jang Hyun, a crazy maniac who kidnaps women because he thinks he is the character in Bluebeard And His Seven Wives. He wanted to marry the women after starving them. Fortunately, he was caught before he can victimize more helpless women.

4. The Mom Who Interferes With Her Son Or Daughter

Moms can also have a misconception of love. They do what is best for their children without thinking about their children's feelings. A villain mom usually slaps the female lead, say hurtful things for those who are not good enough for their children, or scare people to shut them down.

SKY Castle (2018 to 2019) is the most unforgettable drama with an evil mom character. Yum Jung Ah plays the mother named Han Seo Jin, who will do whatever it takes just to get her precious daughter into Seoul National University. This drama has many nosey moms, dads, and kids, but the best was Seo Jin.
