The new Netflix series is scrutinized for casting a boy to play the role of Kim Tae Hee's Daughter, Seo Woo.

"Hi Bye, Mama" had gone viral with the issue of hiring a boy to play the part of a girl. Netizens conveyed their worry that it might give influence the child's gender choices. However, the production team released a statement explaining their decision over the matter.

"The main reason why we chose the boy is because of his looks. He looks almost exactly like Kim Tae Hee when she was younger, and we're sure that the audience can see the similarities between the two as well. Apart from that, he was the only one during the auditions that have shown immense acting talents. It's very hard to cast children in dramas but this kid is incredible."

"Hi Bye, Mama" is Netflix's new series. It has gained high viewership ratings when it first aired on February 22. The story is about a mother who died because of an accident. During the operation, the doctors had saved their baby's life but not of the mother. After that, she had been living as a ghost woman around her family until she came back as a live person. However, even if people can see her and is able to communicate with her as if she's alive, she only has 49 days left to spend with her family.

The role of the family's daughter is played by Seo Woo Jin which raised controversy among viewers as he is a boy.
