Kim Seo Hyung, whose latest appearance was in the drama "Nobody Knows" and the movie "Mr. Zoo: The Missing VIP" this 2020, is currently making headlines for discontinuing her contract with her agency.
The news came out on July 14 when Kim Seo Hyung released a statement to request the termination of her exclusive contract with Madi Pictures.
The statement reads:
"Concerning the agency, there was an acquaintance who had no managerial experience but had shown affection for the actress for a long time. According to her, there was something she could do, and the actress believed those words.
It was a tough scenario because of the manager's lack of experience and financial circumstances, though the actress did her best to accommodate the situation.
The actress's request to terminate the exclusive contract is not because of discord with the manager. This is concerning the manager behaving in such a way that betrayed the trust between her and the actress. The concerned artist heard about this from a third party and met with the manager. During the meeting, the manager said that she was ashamed and mentioned that she could terminate the contract.
Additionally, the actress discovered that there was a problem with financial credit that was related to the manager. She felt the relationship of trust was broken. She needed confirmation from the manager. Yet the manager responded that such things were not important to her managerial work and said that she could not terminate the contract as she promised.
The actress sought help through a law firm and requested an explanation of the issues that had violated their relationship of trust, but the manager refused. Due to this, the lawyer notified Madi Pictures, who was in charge of the actress management.
In regard to the exclusive contract had been terminated. By this saying, the law firm also applied for a provisional injunction to suspend the exclusive contract's effectiveness."
Following the actress's statement, the CEO of Madi Pictures Jeon Sung Hee commented Sports Chosun, "Yes, it is true that we received a notification of contract termination on July 13. For us, there were no problems with Kim Seo Hyung's financial accounts and no issues with her management. But with all of the things we all worked with, we received a unilateral notice of contract termination."
The CEO added, "Currently, she has cut off contact with us and she requested that the portal sites remove her agency information from her public profile. We tried to get in contact with her but we failed. There is still a contract we need to finish for a commercial and Kim Seo Hyung is aware of these issues. Though we are all hoping to reach an appropriate agreement."
Concerning this issue, OSEN released a report in which Jeon Sung Hee claimed that Kim Seo Hyung had engaged in verbal abuse.
According to Jeon Sung Hee, "There are times she would swear and curse at us. Yet we worked hard to triple her pay for her commercial contract, but she asked us how much money we made on the side, though we suggested that she film a public commercial related to digital sex crimes. The output copy was good and the intent was good and we spent two days convincing her. But her reply message on KakaoTalk was not in favor and dismayed about making a public commercial using a hidden camera."
Regarding the agency's statement, Kim Seo Hyun's legal representatives issued another statement to make additional clarifications. The actress' legal firm stated that there had been follow-up reports about the issue.
They emphasized that everyone must be careful about making public statements to preserve the actress's image. It is difficult for their side to respond to every one-sided statement given by the other party. It is important for them that truth should be released instead of false content.
They said, "The actress did not request a contract termination. Beforehand, we notified the agency that the exclusive contract had been terminated." The agency and the actress had been in discussion since May 2020.
Although people tried to help them reach an amicable resolution, it did not work out. The actress law firm cited that the manager had no experience, but she agreed to work because they were friends. Kim Seo Hyung emphasizes that the manager's behavior created a loss of trust due to criticizing and talking about the actress behind her back.
They stressed that the commercial dispute that reported paying an amount for a cancellation fee to the advertising is false. Moreover, the statement about not being able to contact the actor is not true.
Kim Seo Hyung signed an exclusive contract with Madi Pictures last October 2019. She did not hold any agency between the end of "Sky Castle" and last October.
