The "Train To Busan" sequel "Peninsula" recorded the highest number of moviegoers on their first day of screening at theaters despite the current pandemic. It seems that "Peninsula" starts strong at the box office!
The zombie thriller-themed film, "Train To Busan" skyrocketed and took over the world by storm after it debuted way back in 2016. Now the said film has spawned a genuine horror franchise over in South Korea. Having Yeon directing a Train to Busan follow-up film titled "Peninsula". However, "Peninsula" is not like many horrors follow-ups, this film is not a direct sequel.
According to director Yeon, "Peninsula" is not a direct sequel to its previous film, "Train To Busan" since it is not a continuation of the story. However, it happens in the same world or the same universe."

Peninsula happens four years after the terrifying outbreak of zombies chasing over the protagonists riding a train to a certain destination, which is Busan. The Korean Peninsula has now shattered, and the zombie virus has brought down the government around the world, and South Korea has transformed into a country-wide dump.
One soldier is sent on an important mission to regain something which is so valuable. His return trip has made even more complicated when he meets some survivors who were not infected and needed to be saved on his process to serve his mission.
Finally, on July 15 Kang Dong Won and Lee Jung Hyun's new blockbuster "Peninsula" has made it through the theaters despite the current pandemic. The next day, it has been reported that the Korean Film Council declared that "Peninsula" had recorded a total of 352,930 moviegoers on the first day it was released. Now it took first place in the box office.
The announced figures marks as the highest number of the first-day moviegoers gained by any film ever since the country has declared its COVID19 pandemic threat alert level to severe last February, which caused the shutting down of all movie theaters for several month to practice social distancing.
The last record was made by a zombie film also by actress Park Shin Hye and Yoo Ah In titled "#ALIVE," which recorded a total of 204,071 moviegoers on its first day of airing in theaters last month.
To give their response to the good news that "Peninsula" had set a new high record of moviegoers despite the current pandemic, producer Lee Dong Ha expressed that the film's director, Director Yeon Sang-Ho and him shared to one another that they released the film in the most difficult season so for them it is a meaningful and great achievement. The producer also added that they would look out on how it goes in the long run.
