The famous music program "Music Bank" will halt their broadcasting for a few weeks by the end of the year.
Music Bank announced on December 9 that their December 18 broadcast will not air due the particular event called 2020 KBS Song Festival. The following day (December 10) the show shared that the December 25 broadcast and January 1 broadcast will hot push through as well.
So, the final "Music Bank" episode of the year will is on December 11 at 5 p.m. KST. The show will resume its broadcasting in 2021.
It was previously reported that the SBS music program "Inkigayo" also announced a three-week break as well. South Korean music program "Music Bank" airs every Friday at 17:00 KST on the KBS2 network. The show also organizes the global live concert known as the "Music Bank World Tour." Before Music Bank aired, "Top 10 Songs" was the original music program in the network, debuted in 1981, airing live at 6:30 (KST) on Fridays. The said show continued airing until 1998, then "Bravo New Generation" took place "Top 10 Songs." However, due to its low ratings, it was immediately replaced by Music Bank on June 18, 1998.
The show was airing at the same time slot until 2005 when it was moved to Sunday afternoons at 12:45 (KST) and became a recorded broadcast, but it received low ratings. So, in September 2007, the show returned to its original time slot of Fridays evenings at 6:30 (KST) and returned to their live format.
The show was able to combine their category-based charts to K-Chart, which is the familiar countdown chart. They were the only music program to do so.
The show kept on adjusting to different time formats. In November 2008, as part of the autumn format changes, the show's air time was moved to 6:40 (KST) to 8:00 (KST) and it aired for a total of 80 minutes. Then in May 2010, as part of the spring format changes the show was moved to the time slot of from 5:50 (KST) to 7:10 (KST), still airing for 80 minutes.
On August 27, 2010, Music bank started broadcasting live to 54 countries around the world through KBS World. The music program became widely recognized overseas when the Asian American cable network Myx TV began airing the first English dubbed version of Music Bank in 2012. Since October 25, 2013, Music bank started airing for 80 minutes from 6:30 (KST) to 7:50 (KST), following KBS Global 24.
Then fast forward to July 2020, the show is being hosted by TXT's Choi Soobin and Oh My Girl's Arin. Previous hosts include famous Korean celebrities namely: Song Hye Kyo, Rain, Ji Sung, Song Joong Ki, Uee, Yoon Bo Ra, Park Seo Joon, Irene, Park Bo Gum, Choi Bo Min, and Shin Ye Eun.
