The director and screenwriter of the much-awaited spinoff "Kingdom: Ashin of the North," starring Jun Ji Hyun, introduced the thriller drama in a different light.
With just a month away from the premiere, the personalities behind the K-zombie drama spill the details behind the Hallyu star's mysterious character.
"Kingdom: Ashin of the North" Director Spoke About the Main Character, Ashin
According to a South Korean outlet, director Kim Sung Hoon and screenwriter Kim Eun Hee shed light on Ashin and the chaos that surrounded several towns under the Joseon Era.
In the interview, the "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" PD shared that the highly anticipated sequel will focus on Jun Ji Hyun's character and the origin of the mysterious purple flower known as the resurrection plant.
Moreover, Kim Sung Hoon, who also directed the first two seasons of smash hit K-zombie "Kingdom," revealed why Ashin harbors deep resentment towards others.
"Ashin is the person whose emotions are the most concentrated," he mentioned.
Based on the official trailers, the spinoff will represent how the northern regions of Joseon were run down by flesh-eating creatures and the involvement of the resurrection plant.
Interestingly, the "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" teaser also showed Ashin's curiosity about the resurrection plant and how she wanted to help his dying mother.
This raises questions about her connection to the mysterious plant and the uncontrollable spread of the virus.
To recall, in the "Kingdom 2" finale, Crown Prince Lee Chang and Seo Bi found the plant near the Chinese border and were told by the villagers that someone from China was selling it.
It was followed by a scene where Ashin was smiling mysteriously, prompting that she might be spreading the virus on purpose.

On the other hand, screenwriter Kim Eun Hee revealed that "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" is the starting point for future stories and is set to illustrate the bigger scale that surrounds the much-awaited series.
"If "Kingdom" season 1 served as the cornerstone, "Kingdom: Ashin of the North" is more than that. It is a stepping stone to go beyond that."
