Kim Nam Gil returns to the small screen with the mystery crime Kdrama "Through the Darkness."

Based on the book of the same name written by South Korea's first criminal profiler Kwon Il Yong and journalist Ko Na Mu, it follows the story of Song Ha Young, played by the renowned actor.

He portrays the charismatic criminal profiler under Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Scientific Investigation of Criminal Behavior Analysis team.

He was assigned to dig into the case of serial killers and read their minds and what goes into their hearts when they undergo their ruthless killings.

In the press conference, Kim Nam Gil spoke about what made him accept the offer as Song ha Young.

"There was something attractive about the original story and it became an opportunity to re-evaluate the career of a profiler that was unfamiliar at the time, how to read the hearts of criminals, and a job taken for granted," he explained.

Moreover, he mentioned that the character is quite challenging and felt a "personal thirst for reading and expressing emotions through one's gaze, without using a lot of muscles."

"Through the Darkness" cast also includes Kim So Jin and Jin Seon Kyu as the lead stars.

The upcoming SBS series is slated to premiere on January 14 at 10 p.m. KST.
