Lee Soo Yeon, the brilliant mind who penned the forthcoming sci-fi series "Grid," shares her thoughts on the drama ahead of its much awaited release. She also talked about lead stars Seo Kang Joon, Kim Ah Joong and Lee Si Young.

The upcoming sci-fi drama "Grid" is a mystery thriller series that depicts the different stories of individuals who are trying to track down "Ghost," a person connected to them for a certain reason.

Twenty-four years ago, Ghost created a shield called "Grid" to protect human life from deadly winds. After the Grid was created, Ghost disappeared for a long time until they suddenly return as an accomplice to a murder.

Lee Soo Yeon, the writer of the new Disney+ series, revealed that the first title of the series was "O" or a circle, as it's an entity that has no end or beginning.

"I liked how "O" could be read as a "circle" or as the letter "O" itself, but I wanted the viewers to have a title they can actually pronounce," the writer admitted. "I chose "Grid" as the title as it introduces the concept of the drama perfectly."

The writer came up with the idea of the movie after seeing a movie that made her wonder what would happen to the world if the opposite situation occurs, which is depicted from its sci-fi touch.

"It was a long process of work-the solar winds, the creator of the Grid, the Ghost, everything is thoroughly thought out," Lee Soo Yeon added.

In addition to that, "Grid" also mirrors the crises that happen in the environment like global warming and rising sea levels which is similar to the problem of solar winds, adding tension to the drama.

The drama has an all-stars cast that includes Seo Kang Joon, Kim Ah Joong, Kim Moo Yeol, Kim Sung Kyun and Lee Si Young.

Seo Kang Joon transforms into Kim Sae Ha, an employee of the Management Department that chases after the Ghost. He's the first person to run head-on into the murder scene.

Sae Ha is a character who is deeply scarred. Lee Soo Yeon wanted an actor like Seo Kang Joon who has an ability to convey emotions and messages through minimal acting, especially through the actor's gaze.

On the other hand, Kim Ah Joong takes on the role of Jang Sae Byuk, a violent crimes detective who follows the case of Ghost after seeing her at the scene of the crime.

Kim Ah Joong is an actress with strength and fragility, according to screenwriter Lee Soo Yeon, which is very essential to Sae Byeok's character.

"She has a lot of inner conflict and is oftentimes shakes, but she is also enduring on the outside," Lee Soo Yeon said, "Kim Ah Joong perfectly captures Sae Byeok's characteristics and personality."

In the drama, Lee Si Young plays the most important role of the "Ghost." She is the main figure in the grid, who the other characters look for a different reason. She created the Grid to protect human-life from deadly solar winds. However, she reappears 24 years later as an accessoryto a murder.

The writer didn't want anyone to take on the role but Lee Si Young. At first, Lee Soo Yeon was worried about her casting as the character offered to her doesn't have a lot of lines, which surprised the writer when the actress confirmed.

"I never considered anybody else," she said, raising expectations and anticipation. "If given the chance, I'd want to work with her again and give her a lot of refreshing acting scenes."

The drama also stars veterans Kim Moo Yeol and Kim Sung Kyun, two main figures who also hunt down the "Ghost" for personal reasons.

On the other hand, "Grid" premieres for the first time on February 16 on Disney+. Watch the trailer here:
