"The Heirs" and "Pretty Man" Feature More Bad Kdrama Moms

There are many more bad kdrama moms than good ones and the latest round of dramas adds a few more unlikable moms to the list.

It's pretty much a given that if you are a good kdrama mama, supportive, caring and concerned about your child; you will not be able to help your child very effectively or for very long.

Either you died when your child was young or you've disappeared or you are disabled or powerless. Consider Park Shin Hye's physically disabled mom in "The Heirs" or even Lee Min Ho's mom, who flutters around to no effect like a pretty bird in a gilded cage.

And the powerful moms that matter are generally pretty bad, meddling in their children's lives, often with disastrous results. And never are they more evil then when their sons are choosing a spouse. Or even after their sons have already chosen a spouse that the kdrama mom does not approve of.

In "Pretty Man," Han Chae Young's mother-in-law broke up her marriage and is doing everything she can to separate her from her young daughter. In "The Heirs," Lee Min Ho's pretend mother and the chairwoman of the school wants him to marry for money and power and not for love. That same actress, Moon Boon Hong, was not too happy about her son Hyun Bin wanting to date poor stuntwoman Ha Ji Won in "Secret Garden."

In "The Heirs" Rachel, played by Kim Ji Won, has a mom that is no prize either. She sees her daughter's future marriage as merely a business deal.

The mother-in-law in "The Suspicious Housekeeper" was pretty terrible too, cursing heartbroken Choi Ji Woo and asking her to never smile again.

Near the top of Kdrama's long list of worst moms is Gu Jun Pyo's tyrannical mom in "Boys Over Flowers."

Jang Geun Suk may win the prize for having the most bad kdrama moms. He had a selfish mom in "You're Beautiful." He had another selfish immature mom in "Mary Stayed Out All Night." His petulant mom in "Love Rain" was not content with ruining his father's life but also wanted to sabotage his.

And for out and out melodramatic bad, it might be a contest between Gu Jun Pyo's mom, played by Lee Hye Young, and Kim Mi Sook in "Brilliant Legacy." Tossing her poor trusting stepdaughter and her disabled son out on the street was not bad enough but then she had to purposely make him disappear. That was the worst.

But as there are more bad moms in the current dramas, these moms may yet be outdone. Who would you nominate for the list of bad kdrama moms?
