Ryu Jun Yeol is gaining the public's attention after Netflix dropped the first look at the upcoming K-drama "The 8 Show," and it's for the wrong reasons.
Here's what happened.
'The 8 Show' Release Date, Cast: Ryu Jun Yeol To Portray Main Character Role
Headlined by the powerhouse cast, Ryu Jun Yeol plays as Jin Soo in "The 8 Show." He is one of the main characters of the forthcoming thriller-mystery series.
Following a successful filming that took place from June to December 2022, Netflix has officially unveiled the first trailer of "The 8 Show," introducing the stars joining the series.
This includes Ryu Jun Yeol, Park Jung Min, Chun Woo Hee, Lee Yool Eum, Park Hae Joon, Lee Joo Young, Moon Jeong Hee, and Bae Sung Woo.
Based on the popular webtoons "Money Game" and "Pie Game," eight participants were invited to join a reality variety show that would test their survival skills. The chosen contestants, all dealing with financial issues, must endure the challenges to win the cash prize of USD 32 million.
However, the catch here is that for 100 days, the eight participants need to survive the task and live inside a studio built with concrete walls.
In addition, their necessities like food, water, electricity, and more are not free, and they will have to pay for them. Unfortunately, the value is 1,000 times higher than normal prices and will be deducted from the cash prize.
As seen on the first trailer, Jin Soo, played by Ryu Jun Yeol, received an invitation letter welcoming him to the mysterious show.
While checking on the red envelope, he heard a voice over that said, "Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your patience. I now present to you a performance you've never seen before."
As the voiceover shared a glimpse of the game, Jin Soo told himself, "It's easy money," raising excitement about how the game would be.
Interestingly, the upcoming K-drama, helmed by "Emergency Declaration," "The King, and "The Face Reader" director Han Jae Rim, is slated to hit the platform on May 17.
Viewers to Skip 'The 8 Show' Because of Ryu Jun Yeol
"The 8 Show" sparked interest among the netizens since the forthcoming series is somehow similar to the hit K-drama "Squid Game."
However, not everyone seemed happy about the upcoming K-drama since it stars Ryu Jun Yeol.
On social media, "The 8 Show" received mixed reactions from netizens, with some seeming unsure if they would watch or skip the series because of the actor.
Unfortunately, not everyone is happy to see Ryu Jun Yeol on the small screen, especially after his involvement in a controversy with Han So Hee and ex-girlfriend Hyeri.
To recall, Han So Hee confirmed her relationship with Ryu Jun Yeol and got embroiled in a messy SNS incident with Hyeri.
Amid this, Ryu Jun Yeol stayed silent and chose to keep tight-lipped about the controversy, leaving the public disappointed with his "ungentlemanly" act.
