'Lovely Runner' Faces Criticism Due to Its Humor
Mondays and Tuesdays are being celebrated by most of the drama's fans as primetime is being occupied by the buzzworthy rom-com series "Lovely Runner."
Starring Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon, the drama is receiving skyrocketing fame and multiple mentions on media platforms. It has gained popularity with its compelling narrative and the undeniable chemistry between the leads, leading to high ratings and topicality each week.
Despite the praise that the cast and drama are getting from the crowd, some viewers expressed their complaints about the series.
Kim Won Hae's Toilet Scene Receives Mixed Reactions
In particular, some raised their concerns about the drama's humor and the use of comedic elements. According to a report, the comedic scenes are seen as uncomfortable and disruptive to the flow of the series.
The dissatisfaction grew notably after "Lovely Runner" episode 12 was released on May 14. It was when Ryu Sun Jae's father Ryu Geun Deok (played by veteran actor Kim Won Hae), was stuck in the bathroom and had to rinse his hair with toilet water.
The scene became a discussion online and received comments such as "Was this scene necessary for the story?" "It is not good to look at." Prior to this, there were also scenes that sparked debate among viewers.
In the earlier episodes, embarrassing scenes were shown involving underpants and menstrual symptoms. Im Sol's friend Lee Hyun Joo (Seo Hye Won) defecated her pants in front of Im Geum (Song Ji Ho), Im Sol's brother. Adding to this was Im Sol who couldn't hold her urine and got off the bus with Sun Jae. Another one was during their freshman field trip when the comfort room's door was opened while a senior who bullied Im Sol was doing business.

Seeing these, "Lovely Runner's" fans immediately weighed in, defending the drama. The fans stated that the humor used is appealing to older viewers as it is reminiscent of the past.

According to a report, whether the drama can move away from its excessive reliance on forced humor and satisfy the audience with the characters' sweet romance while still maintaining its charm is the focus of attention.
