JTBC launched its new fantasy-romance series "The Atypical Family" in May. Despite its unusual narrative, audiences were hooked.

The drama follows the story of a super-powered family who cannot use their abilities due to various modern illnesses.

The drama stars Jang Ki Yong and Chun Woo Hee as the main protagonists. Claudia Kim also made her small screen return through this project and played the role of Bok Dong Hee, Bok Gwi Ju's (Jang Ki Yong) sister.

She has the power to fly but due to obesity, she's unable to use it.

Previously, her character received mixed reactions as fans were initially not a fan of Bok Dong Hee, citing fatphobia as a reason.

However, as the story progressed, viewers became more positive towards Bok Dong Hee's development as she attempted to solve her problems.

Even though it was just a scheme, Dong Hee caught Grace with her fiancé, Ji Han, which empowered her to dump him.

As the drama progressed, the two women became closer, with Grace helping Bok Dong Hee achieve her weight goals and getting her ex back.

When it was revealed that Ji Han just wanted money from Dong Hee, Grace brought Dong Hee to see for herself.

In the ensuing fight over money, Ji Han pushed Grace out of a window, this triggered Bok Dong Hee's ability to fly and was able to save Grace.

After watching that particular scene, many viewers were convinced that the two female characters had good chemistry. Some even claimed that Grace might be the reason why Dong Hee was able to regain her ability to fly, and some said that it might be a sign that the two should have been more than friends.

Due to their unexpected good chemistry, Bok Dong Hee and Grace stole the spotlight from the drama's main protagonists Bok Gwi Ju and Do Da Hae, in the latter part of the series.

Some fans expressed their sentiments over Bok Dong Hee and Grace's unexpected queer romance.

  • "Halfway through episode 11, but did anyone also get a strong queer romance vibe between Grace and Dong Hee, especially after that flying scene?"
  • "They have been giving gay undertone from the start."
  • "Forget that useless guy, let her marry Grace instead. They can run the gym together."
