Lynda Carter has passed on the Wonder Woman torch to Gal Gadot, who will play the super heroine in the Batman vs. Superman movie. Carter, who played Wonder Woman in the TV series back in the 70s, has given Gadot her blessing.
Metro asked the actress in an interview about having a Wonder Woman successor and if it would be odd to see someone else playing her, and she said "I don't think so. It was a long time ago. I care more about the character continuing than holding on to my piece of it. I hope she has fun with it."
Carter also expounded on why Wonder Woman is so appealing. "There's an identification factor. She's not your average superhero. It's not so much about her super powers as it is about her ethic. I always thought of her as a figure who stands for what's right. We all know what's wrong with the world today, so maybe we need her right now."
It is an auspicious time for Carter to give Gadot encouragement. Gadot, who's known for her role as Gisele in the Fast and the Furious films, has been facing some tough criticism for being cast as the Amazonian warrior princess. People have been saying that she needs more meat in her bones as well as breasts to play the role. The Israeli actress has simply shrugged it all off, saying on the Israeli TV show Good Evening with Gai Pines, "I represent the Wonder Women of the new world. Breasts, anyone can buy for 9,000 shekels and everything is fine."
Gadot, who is also a model, is also busy getting in shape for the role. She has already started training, doing a mix of Kung Fu, Brazilian jujitsu, swords, and kickboxing. She is really preparing hard to join Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman. The movie, Batman vs. Superman, will be out in theaters in July 2015.
