Jung Young Joo opened up about an unforgettable experience she had when she was a student that caused her to have a partial hearing impairment.
Viewers often see the 53-year-old actress portray mother roles in numerous K-dramas, among which is the hit series "Lovely Runner," where she received overwhelming love as Kim Hye Yoon's on-screen mother.
Apart from that, Jung Young Joo is a musical actress. She earned her bachelor's degrees from the Seoul Institute of the Arts, Department of Dramatic Art, and from the Myongji University Department of Vocal Music.
However, behind it, the actress struggles with hearing loss.
Jung Young Joo Talks About Struggle With Hearing Loss
During her guest appearance on MBC's "Radio Star," Jung Young Joo opened up about the incident she experienced during high school.
Involving her male Korean teacher, the actress, who was a class president at the time, responded to the teacher, requesting to summarize the main points of the midterm exam.

However, the teacher got angry and responded negatively by hitting her face with a kettle.
"He came to me and then disappeared from my sight, but I don't remember that moment. He swung the kettle behind me. I passed out, opened my eyes, and I was in the infirmary."
The incident caused Jung Young Joo to have partial hearing loss after damaging part of her eardrum.
"I didn't know at the time. I wondered if it was hurt because it was bleeding a little, but as time passed, I couldn't hear anything.
My eardrum was torn."
As she grew older, she realized that she only had 20 to 30% of her hearing left.

Jung Yoo Joo captivated viewers with her remarkable role in "Lovely Runner."
In a previous interview with a local media outlet, the actress shared a glimpse of their lives during the filming of the series.
"Filming ended every day at 2 AM, and then we would have to be back at the shop by 6 AM. It was a repetitive process."
Due to the jam-packed schedules, there was even a point where they had to visit hospitals for IV drips.
"Sometimes, we would literally be out of tears because we cried so much."
Following the rom-com series, Jung Yoo Joo joined the cast of "Miss Night and Day."
In a fantasy romance series headlined by Jung Eun Ji, Lee Jung Eun, and Choi Jin Hyuk, she portrayed Im Cheong, the super supportive mom of Lee Mi Jin, played by the APINK member.
The weekend K-drama depicts the story of a mid-20's woman, Lee Mi Jin, who struggled to land a job despite her experience.
However, things get more bizarre after she wakes up one day being trapped in the body of a 50-year-old woman.
"Miss Night and Day" airs every Saturday and Sunday via JTBC, TVING, and Netflix.
