2014 Consumer Trends in Technology

What will consumers perceive as trending technology next year? We will have to wait and see, but a couple of trends in digital technology are already taking shape and form.

There are about 600 million websites across the world wide web. It is becoming impossible to talk about consumer trends in technology without referring to store data. This used to be the case when we used paper files. Now, we have reached the point were it is going to be expensive to store digital format.

If you didn't know the App Store stores a million Apps created by developer for Apple. All of the information available at the current time will have to be disseminated into 5.2 GB/person if we are to store the information in some reliable way. Naturally, the move toward cloud storage will be a tech trend for consumers who deal with a lot of data in 2014, reports The Christian Science Monitor.

All of this volume on the Internet and on our PCs, tablets and mobile devices suggest that simplicity is the way forward as a consumer tech trend. If you look at Apple, Google and other tech gadget producing companies this year, they have all simplified their products to adhere to a consumer price margin, simplifying products into a bare bones device and still upscaling design so that devices are easy to use and seamless in their engineering.

Consumer tech trends in 2014 will witness a 'Post-PC' era where new gadgets will emerge to replace the way computing is done. While Apple's Mac is holding ground, Microsoft's Windows 8 will get the boot as CEO Steve Ballmer makes an exit after his ten year stint at Redmond Street.

Chromebooks show good selling capacity in the New Year and OS options are likely to diversify next year. With consumers choosing alternative OS platforms like Android, which also offers free apps with great functionality, perhaps more PCs may run on Android. This translates to consumer trends in technology reflecting tough pricing competition.
